It's not that strange. Just how we can appreciate regular old nationalists from other nations. People who have the back of their people (preferably without - unreasonably - hating others) are generally deserving of some level of respect.
No one good likes cowards and traitors, and most appreciate bravery and honor.
There are plenty of bad racists, or all races, but there are also plenty of good racists, of all races.
I don't even think there is "unreasonable" hate short of something like severe mental illness. Hate is a powerful and taxing emotion. To truly hate someone (or a group of someones) they have to either have betrayed you or threatened someone/something you genuinely love. I wouldn't hate any group that hadn't done at least one of those things, like I couldn't care less about Eskimos or Sentinel Islanders or Amazon jungle head-shrinkers or Congolese pygmies. I don't even remember they exist most of the time.
My point is, there are some black nationalists/racialists/supremacists/whatever that you can get along with. There are others that are terrible and hateful people. Same for any other similar groups of other races.
It's basically positive versus negative racialism. Do you love your own group, or hate outgroups? There are plenty of very resentful and absurd racists.
Maybe this is why top black scholars like Kanye West are attracted to it.
