Attack on titan ended up being retarded because the author chickened out with the ending, . It was obvious that Eren was originally supposed to win based on the Akatsuki no Requiem music video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrQ0zZArUV8 and the fact that AOT is heavily based off of the books The Eternal Champion which did have a full genocide ending.
AOT was heavily based off of both the visual novel Muv Luv and the book series The Eternal Champion both of which had a multiple timelines concept and AOT's author himself said he liked the multiple timeline concept, but he ended up not writing it in to AOT because he's a retard.

Sometimes I wonder if he recieved some preassure from his editors to change the ending in order to not upset the global audiance. AoT was a global phenomenon after all. Every relevant forum had mods working overtime to censor any critism of cringevengers.
