Trailers can be extremely misleading if done properly. Look at the Mrs Doubtfire Horror recut for example. While that's done as satire it wouldn't be the biggest surprise for modern game devs to release a trailer that doesn't match up to the full game experience. Even some games and sequels don't do that like with The Last of Us 2 with the midway change of characters.
