I swear, the right deserves to get their heads bashed in as often as they do, if they keep doing stupid shit like using either Square or Stripe.
For f*** sake, Stripe just de-platformed Odysee a few months ago over content, THEY ARE A HOSTILE PLATFORM, but GSG thinks they will somehow be able to thread the needle?
I don't think anyone would be as committed to the "cause" as it is out of pure altruism or noble goals. Regardless of it he did it to have his little room to tantrum in, he still has gone to the lengths and given us the site to mostly have the freedom to do the same. And I doubt he would have done any of that if he wasn't already a contrarian little shit who rejects anyone telling him anything.
You dismiss it as a little dumb website from the outset, so of course you won't give it the same value I do in terms of simply letting it exist as it does. You are free to that opinion, but its something that means a lot to me as the alternatives across the web fall one by one. I used to be a /b/tard after all and I still lament that place's death to this day.
I mean, he has his own thread and its packed full of his lolcow history. Its a great read about how much of an autistic manchild he has always been, and I do give him credit for allowing it to exist as it does because few others would.
To be fair, this is a problem wide enough that he himself has had to step in to control at times. The DSP forum is constantly getting their shit kicked for being more pathetic than the man himself. Fatrick alogs are absurdly obsessed with him. And half the Beauty Parlor girls are only there to preen by comparison to the lowest bar possible.
Heck the "anti-lolicon" squad that has formed up are so pathetic and constant with their nonsense that it genuinely annoys me how much they are also allowed to shit up every thread. But that entire movement only started because of his own guilty conscious about Nick Bates, I think, and people worshiping his every opinion.
I don't disagree with any of your observations, they are all accurate. I simply never cared enough about him as a person, just his work, to develop much hate for him either. His actions are often very gay, but then I also do a lot of retarded and annoying shit online when I'm not working.
But I have the benefit of my work/family not being tied to my online in anyway, and not having the power to abuse to begin with. Its why I've rejected people trying to "nominate" me (for whatever it was worth) to mod around here, because I'd absolutely ban people for similar reasons he does like them annoying me.
I also do. As a person he is pretty awful, and I feel for anyone who tries to be remotely friends or anything else with him. I feel like a lot of people fall into sycophancy towards him because its the literal only position that might spare his ire (but not always). I am very glad that the corners of KF I like to lurk in are ones he barely ever shows his face around.
I think a lot of these sties exist as expressions of the men who build and own them. This is for better or worse, because it means that you need one or a small few of considerable principled fortitude and beliefs to keep them on track.
Josh was a young man with little to this world when he started on this path. I think that's a big reason why both his actions and the culture he cultivated are the way they are. If he was a man who had accolades, accomplishments, or loved ones to draw upon the memory or pride of he might be a vastly different man. Instead he was a punk kid who suddenly had the entire world against him.
It feels like I'm making endless excuses for him, but I think it just keeps circling around to "I get it" when I think about a lot of what he is and I can't muster as much hate as it might rightfully deserve. Which is then balanced heavily in his favor on the work he has done.
I think this is likely, I think I've even read people saying it on the site itself before. He has a very undue reaction to literally anyone talking to him that seems to be reflexive contrarianism.
Though personality disorders are usually either born or gained during developmental years, rather than as an adult. So I don't think he actually has it, but has developed a rotten personality and coping mechanism that is probably close enough to it. But that's splitting hairs really.
I think its just because I've been here too long. I was there for the original KIA near the start and I've was there for the founding of KIA2 on reddit. And I abandoned both when the userbase became to insufferable for my liking (KIA too Leftie, KIA2 on reddit too NPC). And in both of those I've always been obstinate and loudly anti-mod, which is the only time the topic comes up, so people assign higher nobility on to me than I deserve.
And that's fine. I don't find your facts of the matter to be wrong, its just our two subjective opinions and differences. Trying to force the other to feel differently about it is both retarded and wasteful. We've said our piece and it is what it is. We shake hands and move on from that, which is something Josh probably should work on doing himself.
I think if we lived through various points of history, we'd fine that a lot of men we hold in high esteem likely would fall into a lot of these descriptions. Random retards that stumbled into something bigger than themselves or what they deserved, and then they simply bullheaded themselves into accomplishing something mountains bigger than their little actions should have achieved. And then history forgot the thorny parts and kept the influence they had.
I know this won't be the case with Josh, but its something to keep in mind regarding how unlikable people can still make stakes on history.
One should not discount the value of having a "space" where you can simply unwind completely and have a laugh with the boys. Where you aren't constantly anxious about saying the naughty words and getting morality lectures or booted. While there is obviously some of that (its the entire reason this conversation started), its still mostly limited to the BP hive and the Thunderdome sections. Like I said earlier, I'm able to avoid dealing with him almost entirely in many sections of the site for what that is worth.
Either way, between that and the ability to congregate to talk about the "untouchable" classes of the world, with the crowdsourcing of information and dossiers to learn about them as well, it brings its value through indirect means that are still very important.
That last bit can't be stressed hard enough either. Information I've got there has completely flipped my opinions and thoughts about certain people/movements that had otherwise controlled the narrative around themselves. And then I was able to pass that information to more people, and that makes waves over time.
Sure, that would be the standard in a saner world. But we live in the timeline we do, and that's a service that we have to fight to to have access to. And clearly it is a fight as that's what keeps happening to him.
Its clearly something you have strong feelings on and need to get off your chest, so its of no issue to me. Its nice to speak about it myself, as this has all just been thoughts rattling in my head until now.
