I watched what payment processors did to Gab in 2017, and it got so bad for a while the only way anyone could pay for their Gab Pro account was by mailing a paper check to a snail mail address. AFAIK Gab CEO Andrew Torba still doesn't have a personal debit card because Visa threatened to take away credit card processing from any bank he or Gab had an account with.
I believe we're in a moment right now where social or political pressure could be effectively applied against these money movers. Debanking has at least been brought into the spotlight recently, if only briefly. It needs addressing at some point.

I personally am for making our own systems instead of trying to reform the existing one, because I don't believe the old systems are reformable.
