Agreed. The point isn't that the advice is bad - it's not - it's that it's not a magic cure-all, and (many) boomers don't want to acknowledge that the economic landscape has changed...drastically.
A lot of young people could try to pull themselves up by their bootstraps - and, again, they should try; all that is good - and would find it much harder to end up with the same proportional wealth as these boomers. The opportunity, society structure, and much else has dramatically shifted and, yes, much of that was the fault of the boomers. And many want to ignore both the fault, and even the new reality, and just tell people to work hard, so they can get to where they were.
People should work hard. Effort and determination is good. People should better themselves. But it's also true the younger generations largely had the rug pulled out from under them, and will struggle just to get something nearing the same opportunities, much less outcomes, of the older generations.
Exactly. Both are true. Hard work pays off, but it's also economy dependent.
An extremely well thought and nuanced reply? Is that allowed here? Lol
No arguments from me
It wasn't the "boomers" -- they were sold lies. The entire western world has been under a sustained brainwashing propaganda campaign since at least the 50s.
Yes, obviously the boomers could have voted for Kang instead of Kodos, but put the blame on the Powers that Be. Here in the US it's the federal government -- they did this to us, and I don't care that they were forced to because someone had coerced blackmail material on them.
