In Christianity, forgiveness requires contrition. The thug that murdered his son is almost certainly not sorry nor has he sought out the family of his victim to ask for it.
Secondly, when real Christians offer "forgiveness" person to person, as in "as we forgive those who trespass against us" is more or less an English mistranslation. It means to abandon hot blooded vengeance against the perpetrator. It does not mean not punishing them, but rather to do so dispassionately because it's the right thing to do.
In essence, in proper Christianity forgiving a murderer means offering them the chance for the last rites before you cut off their head. Not this spineless cuckoldry.
