Even just not living within city limits probably helps. I'm convinced that homeless people are made significantly more crazy just by having to live exposed directly to urban environments. The human psyche was not made to have prolonged contact with the Walmart parking lot.
Sometimes I wonder how much of that is down to them living a more spiritually wholesome life than most urbanites.
