Superheroes are a good example of stress tolerances. You can use superheroes to push a certain amount of social engineering, but you inevitably run up against a limit that is defined by the form of the thing itself.

Feminism is another good example. Our superheroes have become so gynocentric - so subservient to and flattering of women - that their masculinity has disappeared. And that masculinity was what made them attractive in the first place.
You can’t endlessly shove anathematic ideas into an already defined vessel. Eventually, the vessel falters and can no longer contain the very ideas that made it popular and influential in the first place.
