The “self hating Jew” was always an attempt by Jews to control all criticism of Jews. It’s like when you have a self-deprecating friend who freely makes fun of himself but gets really mad the moment you crack even one joke at his expense. He was never actually self deprecating. He just wanted to control the degree and type of jokes that were being directed at him by “assuming the lead”.
