They specifically said they wouldn't play any of them, never had, wouldn't read the books, and would only hire people who didn't so that they're wouldn't "have the vision diluted"

Then why not just write their own story. Sounds like the people who made Witcher

Because they aren't artists, they're commercial hacks who work at a media company. From top to bottom there's not a halo fan among them, but an accountant makes a pitch, and corporate agrees, and rights are acquired. Corporate probably couldn't pick the IP out of a lineup, but they make the buy.

Then they have to task their writers, maybe they take volunteers, maybe they assign based on previous genre work. Sometimes it's lowest bid.

Writers want to get paid to write and they want to he famous too. They all think they're special, otherwise they wouldn't be writers (This is universal, I'm included) so they want to tell their story to the world, so the world can see how special they are. But corporate isnt going to give 40 million to some writers room hack who cut their teeth writing copy for the back of a chutes and ladders box.

No they're making an investment of time, and need guaranteed return. Enter the purchased IP.

At the end of all that, not a single person from funding to management to the trenches got on the project out of love. A lot of them are pretentious fucks who think they're the next hemmingway. But here they are writing scripts for some stupid sci-fi show. Based on a fucking nerd game of all things.

That pretty much sums it up. Then they attack passionate fans for calling it out for being crap

Well you have to understand, they view this sort of work as so consumately beneath them, it's fans are approaching a lower form of life.

And I mean that as neutrally as possible.

Like your kid telling you they dont like hamburger today even though it was their favorite yesterday. Their opinion js.... questionable at best. Same principle. They consider most consumers as inadequate to the task of both judging material, and judging whether or not they even like it. Thus they blame reviewers and taste makers for introducing poisonous negativity into the discourse. How irresponsible.
