Exactly. When it first came out, everyone sane assumed it would be a bit viral and would end up with everyone involved getting fired and this slampig would be memory holed so the grift could continue.
Instead the Machine circled wagons and pushed radical censorship everywhere they controlled (which was a redpill in itself for many).
So now when they need a boogieman to blame choices they don't understand happening they try and bring Gamergate back in as a means of showing that it's some weird group rather than a genuine consumer rights group who wanted ethics in their reported information by paid news outlets.
They just don't learn.
