Garlic is anathema to vampires, skinwalkers, and other evil skulking beasts. Its association with holiness has been long-established. Anyone who overtly tries to push that garlic just doesn't exist as a seasoning, when it has centuries of history behind it, I'd check to see if they are able to cross water, or be repulsed by crosses.
