No, you're completely missing the fact that the institutions were have been Leftwing since the 1910's. This faction is actually the 70's radicals who clawed their way back to power after having been disowned by infiltrating higher education and all other institutions for 50 years.

What we are looking at today is the same thing that lost them power with Mondale: ideology and policies that are so antithetical to the general population that they are being rejected outright and causing their institutions to be delegitimized (which is far more damaging than what any previous right-wing movement was ever able to achieve).
