The problem with Egypt that most of its population is concentrated in a small part of the land, due to the rest being inhospitable for human habitation. This small part of the country is also where the arable land of the country is located. That's why Egypt also can't feed itself and is reliant on foreign countries for the import of foodstuffs.

Egypt also had a population explosion due to Islamic birthrates, further compounding the problem.
