It was never popular thing but forced onto general public and was actually discouraged to complain about it, normies wanting to avoid confrontation tolerated it for 4 or 5 years, maybe even more. Western game devs in general now sees the status quo changing and a lot of them want to jump off the sinking ship. My grievance with this change is the fact that what customers want should be obvious but we have to have the poll and all these song and dance to desperately come off as I'm one of you guys. I understand the stance but I hate it at the same time.
It’s the tyranny of the intolerant minority. Same reason so many butchers are halal.
Eventually, the majority needs to forcefully exert itself on the intolerant minority.
