I'm sure some people enjoy it plenty, but I can't imagine I'm in the small minority that find it terrible.

You (we) are. Most people are blinded by pretty looks and seemingly don't really care about gameplay anymore. I regularly piss people off by saying Gothic 1 is leagues better than Witcher 3 and I will die on that hill. (͡ ° ͜ʖ ͡ °)
