are we talking composition or topic? composition I can't really argue with, because I'm not enough of a shutterbug, but as for topic, it reflects the difference in focus of the two publications. Nat geo is more focused on the natural world, and time on political/public interest news, so it makes sense they'd be different, lol.
as a publication, I like nat geo a little better, less political bias (it's still there, just less pronounced. they're even, dare I say it, based from time to time), but the time spread was definitely more relevant to people's lives.
I care more about composition because that is what I went to school for. The subject of a photo is, well, subjective. The NatGeo photos had very uninteresting lighting and composition, and the subjects were almost always political. The Time photos on the other hand were good photographs in and of themselves for the most part, regardless of the subject.
I liked the other view of Trump on the bottom of the pile bleeding. It's so different from the iconic fist raising picture. It's like this guy powering up
Surprised I got tagged :) Yes, appreciated and honestly you just CANNOT tell me that this isn't the picture that has influenced the most people this year. It will be printed in history books and rightfully so.
These are significantly better than NatGeo's picks.

Expected it to be lame and gay. Some of them are gay, but these aren't lame.
Agree with u/SarcasticRidley - these are much higher quality than those National Geographic ones.
However you feel about the politics represented by some of these, at least these are actually skillfully captured. There's some great stuff here.
There's definitely some cringe stuff in there (Kamala's appearance on SNL) but for the most part they are pretty good.
The photo of Trump with his fist in the air after being shot is photo of the decade IMO.
Instantly iconic, and instantly recognized as iconic by virtually anyone who's seen it. Even leftists.

Surprised they included Trump pictures at all, let alone so many. And even positive.
It looks like one of the photos is of Lukachukai Arizona in the Navajo Rez. Water is difficult in that area. However, everyone has Internet and power.
u/AnotherSchwarzesMark there might be a photo here for you
