When globohomo refers to Japan and Indigenous, they're usually referring to the Ainu in Hokkaido. And sometimes in anime, you'll see the rare dark-skinned native Okinawan/Ryukyu Island natives, which are supposed to count for DEI Indigenous points.
I'm not knowledgeable enough on this subject to comment beyond that. I will say that there's a lot more media featuring Ainu than there used to be. I strongly suspect that this is the direction the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima sequel is heading in.
And the sami are the only indigenous population in Europe.
My ancestors followed the ice as it retreated and settled Norway long before the sami came here, yet I'm not called indigenous and they get preferential treatment in law.
technically the ainu were there first along with a the Ryuku islanders and a few others (I think), the japanese are descended from chinese, korean, and I forget what else settlers who intermindgled to become the Japanese we know today. There's some controversy about supposedly forcing the Ainu to integrate into Japanese culture more closely and abandon their old ways, apparently. What you just described is why saying Caucasians cannot count as natives should be classified as an executable offense.

Japanese are also descendents of Jomon who were definately there first.
And Ainu don't claim all of Japan , only the north of it in the Hokkaido area.
And commies don't "defend" anyone. They just use whatever group didn't build the country as a weapon against the group that did build the country.
