Have your judgments about JD Vance changed since his nomination?

See the title.

My own response is in the comments.

I always thought he was great, and the best pick among those who were considered. Just imagine a Marco Rubio VP appointment from a man who might well die during his term, quite awful.

One thing I have changed my mind about: I thought he would at best be electorally neutral. Why? Because he won fairly narrowly and after a lot was spent, even in a red state like Ohio. That did not suggest that he had great appeal among swing voters or even Trump's working-class base. Turns out, this is a much different stage, or he has learned a lot in the past two years, because it seems that he has managed to impress people more than he did during his Ohio Senate run.

Also, I myself was impressed by his appearances on Joe Rogan and others. Far from being "weird", he's as ordinary as you get, in the good sense of the word.

Having Tampon Tim as a foil helped him greatly.

It was like there was a memo amongst mainstream media to call him weird

It's like clockwork. The day after KH accused Trump of 'rambling', all the media started consistently claiming that every speech Trump gave was a 'rambling speech'.

He was very impressive in Ohio's senate run.

The problem was that the Republican Party was fucking radio silent on his campaign. They wanted him to lose. There were no Vance signs in the streets, there were no Vance ads on TV or radio, they didn't talk about his debate performance, they were trying to sink his career because he was very clearly MAGA at the time.

They are successfully doing to Kari Lake what they failed to do to JD Vance: throw the election by putting up zero funding and zero campaigning, then claim that Trump candidates can't win because they're too radical. This is why Philosoraptor once told me that Mike DeWine carried him to victory, despite DeWine being a feckless Neo-Con cuckold that nobody likes.

I don't think that is correct: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-election/mcconnell-allies-launch-ad-blitz-prop-jd-vances-senate-campaign-ohio-rcna43755

McConnell doesn't care about anything as much as being Majorty Leader.

No, I'm right about this one. That ad buy didn't go for propping up Vance. It went to tearing down Tim Ryan. I didn't even know who Vance was, let alone that he was running. I have the radio on 24/7 for background noise. They ran campaign ads on why Tim Ryan was bad. They didn't say shit about Vance, who he was, what he had done or anything else. It was "Tim Ryan bad. No vote Tim Ryan." Then, not a fucking word about JD Vance. That's not how you win an election. They wanted him to lose. According to Rich Barris, Vance called him personally because he wanted to know what Barris' polling had shown, because Republican establishmetarians were telling him to drop out a week or so before the vote because he was 4 points down in the polls on their internal polling. He won by 6.
