Or rather why do people care about Hamas at all? Their activities are contained in the Middle East, they aren't the West's problem, , they are mostly israel's problem and their main goal is to get Palestinian land back , so they are mostly Palestinian nationalists. Im not sure what is the problem with that exactly. The only people who should logically have a problem with hamas are israeli shills but even they should only really blame themselves because Netenyahu admitted that he helped to fund hamas.

Very possibly, but he may be simply ignorant. The Barbary Slave Trade is a valid example of Islam waging war against Christians, as it was a long time practice of the Barbary Islamic Caliphate. It was standard practice for centuries that all Islamic countries around the Mediterranean would kidnap, enslave, and castrate Kuffar (Christians) from Europe.
This aggression was religiously based in Islamic supremacism, and the US attempted to negotiate with the Caliphate that as a country with no official state religion, attacks on US ships were inappropriate. This did not work, and led to the war, and President Jefferson's attempt to depose the government.
These were religiously motivated attacks by a religion that saw non-Muslims as inherently inferior and deserving of slavery.
And American Whites saw Blacks as inherently inferior. Was slavery in the US also religiously motivated or perhaps rather racially and financially motivated? The Berbers were pirates and slave traders that targeted Europeans and also Subsaharan Africans if they could get their hands on them. This was their lifestyle. They weren't a unified entity but a collection of pirate cities and states. This was a piracy/slave trader conflict. Not a religious war.
Just because religions plays/played a huge role in the life of people doesn't mean everything single thing is solely or primarily motivated by that religion. Religion isn't everything.
If you think that's me defending Islam as a religion then you're a fool. Unlike you I can and will separately judge the people and their religion and will not pretend that someone becomes an entirely different person just because they've changed their religion.
I'm afraid none of this is true. First and foremost Islam is a totalitarian religion, so yes it is the primary motivation for anything done by a Muslim. Second, you are defending Islam by rejecting it's history, but that's not my primary concern. Third, the Barbary States is a misnomer by the United States because they did not understand the political construction of the Caliphate. It wasn't a random assortment of pirate coves (like the coast of South Carolina in the 1600's). It was a Caliphate. Fourth, the Barbary Caliphate did not extend it's operations to Sub-Saharan Africa because it would have been too far away and impassible, when Christians were already near, were by definition inferior, and were regularly in conflict with the Ottoman Empire. The Portuguese and Spanish were the ones getting Sub-Saharan slaves.
Religion absolutely motivated the access to Christians as slaves due to the fact that they were considered a morally inferior people by definition. Islam never opposed slavery, but any Kufar or Infadel defying Islam should be killed or enslaved. Islam even played a role in how ships were attacked. The reason US Marines are called "leather necks" was because of the conflict with the Barbary Caliphate. Unlike any conflict with any Christian state, Sailors, Marines, and civilians would constantly be beheaded both in combat and during capture as a Islamic tradition. To avoid this fate during combat, the marines began wearing thick leather straps across their necks on their uniforms. This is how the term "Leatherneck" originates.
My primary issue, again, is that your talking like a Leftist, and I'm not sure you can help it. You've now made a philosophically Liberal-Atheist statement about the separation of a person from their religion, assuming that most societies even tolerate agnosticism.
Your comments, perspectives, and assumptions are all explicitly Leftist.
Simply be honest about what you are, and I'll drop it.
Ask him if he can do the separation of religion with Jews too, even considering that Judaism is also an ethnicity. I doubt he will be able to.
You're going to pretend that Islam manages to supersede nationalistic ambitions? That was true in the past, same for Christianity but not today. Religion is a tool for population control that will be used either my religious institutions like the Vatican or by national governments like Iran.
The Islamic world always has been deeply divided just like the Christian world. You can pretend that anything any Islamic or Christian nation ever did was motivated primarily by their religious beliefs because they liked to use religious gospel as an excuse for their political and financial ambitions but it's just not that simple.
I'm not. I'm simply not seeing Islam as unified singular entity.
You had several different Barbary states. Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli were officially part of the Ottoman empire but mostly autonomous. Alawi Sultanate (Morocco) was independent.
They were not a united entity under a singular leadership. They were a collection of several states and city states that worked together at times.
And there you have the reason why the Berber pirates targeted primarily Europeans. Subsahara Africa wasn't a realistic target and North Africa belonged to the Ottoman Empire which most of them were officially part of or had friendly relations with. Going after subjects of the Ottoman Empire would have been suicidal. So what's left to target? Europeans.
They were pirates. Not utterly retarded suicidal idiots.
I don't care how I sound like. I don't care if you call me leftist, right-wing extremist, a nazi, a communist, a libtard, homophobic, Islamist, islamphobic, transphobic, anti-semitic, racist, a conspiracy theorist, a Jew or whatever else you can think of.
A lot of what I believe isn't tolerated by a majority of my own society. I don't give a fuck. Where I can speak my mind I will speak my mind.
I'm actually a member of the JIDF. Wait, no. I'm a member of a Russian troll farm. Or was it Chinese?
Perhaps I'm simply what I present myself as. A non-conforming anonymous idiot with his own beliefs who wastes his time with discussions on the internet.
It was a caliphate, and Thomas Jefferson worked to overthrow the government with a rebellion by the Caliph's brother.
In any case, I don't believe you yet. I think you're doing a lot of back-rationalization. I'm going to treat you as a troll going forward. Don't violate the rules or you'll get yeeted.
