If the aesthetic is similar, it's because anime is generally stylized for younger audiences and "black art" never matures past the street graffiti they do as kids.

Seriously. The Spider-Man 2 game had quests to find and appreciate "authentic bipoc art" around the city. Graffiti, all of it.
