One thing I've really gotten to like about anime music is that rock/punk seems to still be pretty popular in Japan, whereas it's been virtually entirely replaced by rap/autotuned club music here in the US. I can't understand a lick of the lyrics, but a ton of anime has really catchy and upbeat punk, and as a 90s teen, it brings back fond memories. I'm a (marginal to average) drummer and a lot of the songs aren't too hard to play and a ton of fun.
I'll start by saying Tu Love Ru's season one opener "Forever we can make it" by THYME (also the animation that goes with it in the show is👍)
If you want a real bop, Ya Boy Kongming's OP, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNn9NxZH2Vo "Chitty chitty ban ban", is super catchey for a semi-recent piece. It's more pop-rock than punk-rock, but still a solid song.
For a bit older, Tenjou Tenge's OP "Bomb a Head" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4TXnn5OD-0 always brings a smile to me.
And for a curveball, Eden Of The East's Western release lost the use of Oasis as a band for their OP, so they got generic jpop in the west, and western rock in the East, which is a shame because it actually works really well, IMO. Lyrics fit the anime's theme, and message. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49cDxJPH3k8
EDs are trickier, I don't often watch them. So... Dango Daikazoku, from Clannad. Because it's cute, calming, and effective as an ED.
Check out the 3 EDs from Konosuba. Very charming and relaxing.
Can't believe I forgot to put that on my list. Such a fun show, such a fun anime.
