Looking at Expedia right now, one round trip ticket from NYC to Istanbul runs about $900-1000 for economy class and $4000 for business class, so the numbers actually might be plausible.
Suburban houses in NA are really great, even 'poor people' have great homes. But are the apartments really that big?
From my personal experience, a similar apartment to mine costs 3 times as much in a not-NYC US city. God knows how they manage it, housing is a disaster where I live. So I think it's just "they can pay more so let's charge them more", like with the tickets.
I'm not being chauvinistic when I say that I'd rather live here than there, at least if these were the only considerations.

That's a good deal higher than you pay for similar distances in Europe. I guess Americans are not as poor as Europoors so the airlines rob you more.
it always amuses me when i read "europoor" knowing that you guys pay $2000 rent a month even in normal cities over there
Yes, but apartments and houses in NA are twice the size of yours. Except in New York.
They also, you know, have AC

Tony is not American.
Well, they also pay more for business class tickets, it seems - or even normal tickets. So that in part makes up purchasing power for poverty.
Also, I'm European and I don't like them much. But they're in charge of the green paper production mills, so they have a lot more money on paper.
