So. One of the functionalities of the NaNoWriMo website was to allow copy-pasting of your manuscript to get a word count. That used to be hashed. What are the odds that info is being scraped by this new AI sponsor?
Right, but that won't update your wordcount as a fraction of 50K, with the percentage next to it automatically... which is why I think the function could be used as bait to scrape data. The NaNoWriMo forums being what they are, exploitation of their userbase would be consistent with the level of pozz present.
In Times New Roman 11 point font, a page is 500 words, approximately. You don't really need more info than that, your work of writing should finish when it is supposed to, not when it hits some arbitrary number.
To be fair, NaNoWriMo is specifically a challenge about time and word count. It's one of the few scenarios where, yes, word count is important. But, yeah...no need to use their official counter, as that's silly and unnecessary.
I guess I'm a snob then because I like my writers to think. I don't care much about anything else about them. They can be any colour, gender, height, weight and be as physically capable or not as they are (Or wish to be). But they do need to have imagination to bring their thoughts through to their readers.
I guess it will cancel out the lower and mid-tier ones. I don't think anyone will notice.
Plus AI is all lobotomized now by leftists to not say certain things. So if everyone used AI for writing books it would all be gay and push "the message". Can't have that.
I did NaNoWriMo a few times, years back. It was fun, but the community was always woke/protowoke. Not a huge surprise, given that it's a "creative community," and one that appeals to the Redditor-types as well.
The concept is fine, but most of the people and the organization should be ignored, largely. If you want to write 50k words in a month, do it. Simple as. Everything outside of that is unnecessary bullshit.
To be fair, we're not talking about AI generated content. ProWritingAid isn't a generative AI, but more like a glorified spellchecker that can tell you if your Sci fi book has more or fewer adverbs than the standard bestsellers or if your sentences are longer than those in other books. Zero creative suggestion, just technical.
That being said, I'm sad to see ProWritingAid taking such a woke stance instead of simply offering their service to whoever wants it

Hasnt MS word had a word count feature for thirty years?
Yup. And every other word processor...and you could get word counter addons even before it was built in.

Wow!
