Free speech is an issue that has existed LONG before even the 2000s in the UK, it was just they weren't as overt as they are now.
Combining it with leftist ideology just accelerated the process. I think part of the problem is UK normies see so much American entertainment and use YouTube that they are under the illusion that they have close to the same speech protections when in reality they are behind that one Asian country that it's a jailable offence to mock royalty even when he was dressing as a complete prat.
The UK didn't know it at the time, but any free speech "rights" they had left were given up the moment they disarmed themselves in 1996. A right means nothing when you give up the right to defend it.
An amnesty was organised which had a very high take-up; handguns were licensed, so it was easy to know who had possession of one, and there was a compensation scheme in place to reimburse owners.

Thailand. If you mock royalty, even if yiu are not thai or in thailand, if you step foot into thailand you get arrested.
My KIA2 Rule: Anything not written down will be stolen by communists - eg: Fiat savings, Immigration replacing you, free speech rights
That would be Thailand.
Thailand has the lese majeste laws. And you're right, they're not policing general speech in the same way as the UK.
