I do want our border secured against drones, be they for smuggling or any other purpose, but I’m confused as to what new legislation would be necessary to accomplish that. Surely such incursions would already fall under the remit of the border patrol or military? If they need new equipment for that, surely a procurement process exists? Just have them do their damn jobs instead of staffing them with diversity hires that high five illegals.
The new legislation isn't to solve the current problem. Its to set laws in place by making use of a "crisis" to limit civilian ownership and usage of drones, because they are getting too complex and dangerous to be left alone with the increasing civil unrest and anti-government hate.
Yeah I imagine it won't be long at all until GPS and radio signal is no longer needed at all. AI image recognition is already so advanced one only needs to send the drone in the direction of the target using a camera and computer to ID the target.
And I'm sure they already have the tech and capability to do so in their hands, and are just sitting on it to keep the box closed and people from knowing they could.
Naturally.
Just wait until we get the first political assassination with a suicide drone, that shit is going to scare the hell out of the politicians.
We are in the catch-up phase now, where governments start to realise what the world has seen in Ukraine has wide ranging uses and ramifications outside of Ukraine as well.
Expect legislation on drone operations to come fast and draconian, they're going to treat it like 3D printed guns.
It's worse than they can imagine, Ukraine has done suicide bomb drone attacks where the drone is cardboard.
You'd better hope to god your radar works on cardboard not just metal or plastic..
Accuracy isn't really a worry for anti-personnel since you just blast them with shrapnel from 20m above.
RIP rc plane hobby
I remember that story about the flying dildo drone a few years ago, and thinking that at the time. People just thought it was funny, like look at the harmless little drone. And now with all of the drone activities in Russia/Ukraine, it was just a matter of time before people realized just how much harm they could do with them.
I remember 12 years ago, saw a youtube video of a drone with a glock lol.
I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen it yet. there's plenty of unrest throughout the world, and drone parts are a ridiculously easy to get.
Wait for the first drone serial killer.
Its funny how battlefield 3/4 predicted the use of drones + explosives lol.
It's been obvious for a while.
Surprised no one has tried flamethrower drones yet.
They're already a thing.
Or sniper drones.
Considering the same people are running both I'm not surprised
