The yen is at historic low against the dollar now. Food, lodging, transportation Is very affordable once you get there - within reason. Thats why they are getting record number of tourists now. While the vast majority of them are still East Asian, it wasnt uncommon to see packs of nigs and paieets around.

Even the plane tickets arent that expensive.
