This is just being more open about a policy that has existed for years. Hopefully this means a rival service can facilitate what Visa refuses to allow.
I honestly wish. Not sure about the laws in Japan, but the US has built laws to wall in the main three (Visa, Mastercard, Amex.) You would need the US government’s blessing to start a rival card company that can transfer between Japan and US.
What about Discover? Yeah laugh if you want but they're pretty mainstream now and are part of the JCB/Diner's Club network that has been popular in Japan for a long time.
I'll laugh more if this is the opportunity Discovery needs to become a major player by filling the void Visa leaves.
It's widely accepted, but I see it as part of the oligopoly.
You'd also need to convince some banks to bother playing along.
YOu can issue a credit card, directly. I don't think that's the problem. But I don't know what you're saying exactly. Yes, at some point the banks would have to play along. Repayments, I guess, since most people pay their credit cards via bank account. IDK how open that is.
If you are gonna make it any harder than paying visa you may as well take crypto, though, or even some kind of wire transfer they will probably let you do.
