In the original Star Wars the Empire represented the generic bad guy. Yes the uniforms, and abundance of white guys hints toward NAZIism, but it's just association with the cultural zeitgeist of evil.

It is funny to watch all these smug "it's about space wizards" assholes turn into Robert Langdon when regular fans complain about recent Star Wars.
