democracy is the means of appearing to give the masses what they think they want while maintaining control through back-channels/sub-channels i.e. the real channels of power, hidden by the WWE spectacle of politics.
look at who these people are. one of their core beliefs is the "beautiful lie", or the idea that lying to the public to get what you want is noble. the rabble are stupid and incapable of doing what is right, so you lie to them and insulate "the philosophers" to let them rule in peace.
it kind of breaks down when you get to know these "elite philosophers" and realize they're fucking idiot mouth-breathers and should be splitting rocks in a uranium mine.
Democracy also gaslights citizens into blaming themselves for whatever the government does to them.
