What annoys me most about him is that he was on record pre-Floyd saying that race isn’t an issue or not something he thinks about much. He just saw the opportunity to jump on this. NASCAR also seems to be one of many groups that hates it’s core fanbase
They really do. They hate the redneck image.
I saw a photo of an empty stadium where NASCAR was trying to do a pride event. I’m sure they have done other stuff.
When the entire thing was founded by rum runners in the Appalachian mountains, supported by the people they used to run rum to, and then had races to prove they had the faster car ...
A lot of celebrity minorities pulled this shit. They kissed whitey’s ass and knelt at the altar of colorblindness when it was advantageous to do so, and then they turned right around and became frothing identity politics zealots when that position started to confer more benefits.
Reminds me of all the girls who enthusiastically fucked Harvey Weinstein - when he held the keys to a lifetime of fame and fortune - only to sour on the deal long after the fact in order to secure a payout. Most celebrities are just whores of one kind or another.
Larry Elder had a caller during that time period and it was a white guy whose best friend growing up and lived three houses down from him was talking about how oppressed he was and got mad when he pointed out to his friend that they grew up in a ritzy neighborhood and he has the fanciest house on the block. A black dude called in with a similar story about his upper class and wealthy cousin who used the Floyd nonsense to whine about oppression.
So many cashed in on that nonsense
It doesn't help that there is a minority of NASCAR fans who are very progressive and Left who are constantly complaining about the rest of the fanbase and how something needs to be done about them.
Which is who NASCAR is really pandering too, hoping they will bring in their friends if they ban baddie flags.
Problem is those friends still think its for dumb rednecks, regardless of politics or class.
"greetings fellow car racing enthusiasts..."
Are they really fans, or is it just people that jump into online forums and say they're fans?
We've seen this before with video games,, comic books, D&D, etc. Progressives claim to be fans and put the industry on blast that they need to be more "inclusive" because they're leaving so much money on the table, but the supposed expanded audience they get from changing their core business model never materializes.
I don't think they were ever fans to begin with, just agent provocateurs that saw a segment of society immune to their nonsense and decided to worm their way in to "fix" it.
I've met actual real fans in that manner. Not online, real life people who can display their collection of memorabilia and the like as proof of a long history with it. Always the type that grew up watching it before they gained politics and then kept watching despite their ideology going wildly against the grain. You can find the same with a lot of Wrestling fans.
Again, its a minority amount but they do exist and likely helped NASCAR be more confident in this course working. But then it didn't because none of them could ever convince anyone that NASCAR wasn't bottom bin redneck shit.
So like so many things we have seen they are listening to a very loud minority instead of actual fans
ANd the bigger problem, as Hollywood/Big Vidya refuses to acknowledge, is that you can't have both markets. If you cater to the faggot/BLM market, you lose a lot of your established market.
And after that sacrifice, the faggot/BLM market never turns out in numbers to make up for it. They are just happy to see another beloved cultural icon/franchise/hobby destroyed since they hate the people that used to love them.
