Women's opinions ( well, more acurately, watching who they pick, not what they say they want ) of what is sexually attractive should inform you on how to make youself more sexually attractive.
Not only to get a partner, but to keep her attracted and have a family.
And vice-versa.
Breaking your legs to gain 2 inches and risk being crippled for life is not a good evaluation of effective ways to better yourself. Getting fit would be a better move, but that requires discipline every day through life ( diet and exercise ).
I find the concept of getting fit to be grossly oversold as the solution to all problems by the manosphere and self-help gurus. As in, we're all blank slates, genetics ain't real and everything can be fixed by exercise and diet. While being fit and healthy is not a bad thing to be, there is a lot of other nuance that gets missed, everyone comes from a different start in life and ceilings that people hit on an individual level.
I honestly think face is the most important factor, for both men and women. Regardless of body type, an ugly face can really kill someone's ranking. But still, if you're fat then losing weight is worth it just for the health benefits alone. Packing on muscle is probably overrated. A lot of the guys I see women go for have handsome faces, are tall, and skinny. They're usually not noticeably muscular.
Yes and no. It's not going to fix everything but it's the single biggest and simplest improvement you can make. And it will have an impact on a lot.
No, you're not going to fix a busted face or become a 10/10. But the worst case is settling for better health and less depression. And it's a good pathway, that's reinforced with visible results, to develop self-discipline in general.
The issue is where they act like getting you bicep to a certain diameter is some foolproof mating strategy. It's not. It's just an aspect of getting your shit together and being seen as a more in-control person.
Having a personality above simpering weasel doesn't hurt either...
Edit: in case anyone reads this later, I'm just gonna clarify. I wasn't calling anyone specific a weasel, I'm just saying that a lot of men take the "kiss ass" approach to women, which can be a major turn off, as, if the woman in question is even remotely attractive, she's all too familiar with the type. Be interesting, be funny, be challenging, but don't pucker up the minute you see a woman you wanna bang and tell her everything you think she wants to hear.
