I started playing a new TCG, called Sorcery. Sorcery has an official Discord and they spawned a "Sorcery Marketplace" Discord to discuss the secondary market. The main vendor that supplies booster boxes online themselves have a Discord.
There's an odd push for everything ever to have a Discord community and I'm not sure why: the UI is absolute garbage, threads get lost to time in the short span of a day, and the more active a channel the more it exacerbates those problems.
every discord replacer software i've tried, privacy-oriented or not, has had absolute garbage to the power of sixteen as its UI. "why does everyone use discord?" has the same answer as "why does everyone use windows?" - the alternatives SUCK.
I can understand it for games that rely heavily on grouping, or an indevelopment project that needs lots of feedback.
Everything else just seems to exist because "it has to have one" and they always end up being a cesspit of degeneracy and grooming, regardless of what the "main topic" is (even if its antithetical to such actions).

Discord is the new Facebook, I think. Sucking ass will not prevent takeover.
