This is like Noem's story about shooting a puppy in the face. Why on earth would he think telling people this would be a good thing?

In Noem's case, it's presumably because the mind of the pampered city-dweller is alien to her. She shot a dog that started killing livestock, and even if you don't like doing it, it's what needs to be done.
