The embassy is owner by Iran which is a hostile power. Since when are we defending hostile Islamic regimes?

He is not. He is pointing out that when you pick fights you will be fought straight back. Israel bombed an embassy so Iran responded, simple as that.

Embassies are not to be touched under any circumstances if you want to retain even a semblance of peaceful negotiations.

Consider for a moment that foreigners in the embassy were not combatants.
