I feel like some of this is tied to them needing constant validation and uplifting. They need stories where everything is simple and "good" always wins and everything is pleasant and easily digestible. Not just as a cover for predation, but also to try and inflate their fragile egos. They recognize their failings and flaws an some, subconscious level, and desperately try to drown it out with feelgoods. Rainbows and pastels are pleasant. Kids shows are safe and unchallenging. Easy games are validating.

I really do think a lot of these people are just colorful, hollow shells, and it makes me sad. People that are desperate to prove they have worth, because they believe deep down that they're worthless....
