Gay/trans discourse has maintained for a long time that a huge portion of the population for all of history was one of them and just forced to "keep it in the closet" because of fear or norms or whatever. Thereby its not abnormal once you get to the "real number" that are still in hiding.

Its why they also find it normal in their media for every second person to be some form of queer, that's their literal belief of the world.
