There are some tribes in in the SEA Islands that straight up worship military equipment and random American servicemen they met once who showed them technology.

I've heard of this. The infamous John Frum.

As in "Hi, I'm John, from America."

Reportedly, when asked several years ago why they were still doing this, one of them gave this answer:
