I'm old enough to remember Fileplanet, which never never did this stuff. Maybe someone needs to bring that back.
The only reason Fileplanet and sites like that didn't do things like this is because the janny faction hadn't developed the doctrine yet.
Yes, I had that thought when out of curiosity I went and looked up when FiIeplanet went dark (2012.) Although, far left infiltration of gaming had started back then, as Doritosgate happened in that year.

Fileplanet had IP blocks for entire COUNTRIES. I personally never did anything there other than try to get some mods and my country was blocked for no reason I can figure out. In the current year, this authoritarianism would have become magnified hundredfold.
Blocking American addresses would be a valid course of action for any site these days.
