"That time my wife was reincarnated as the weakest level dinosaur and made me into her veterinarian" will be a smash hit in the light novel scene, I'm sure.
Wait it's real? I thought it was a random absurd example. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised by anything after the unironic "I actually am an attack helicopter" story.
I read a crap ton of of sci fi published by Baen and Sad Puppies writers. Good scifi is out there but it hasn't been at the Hugos or Nebulas in 20 years.
I wouldn't say they gatekeep at all actually. Theyll published stuff from people pretty far on the left. They just care about good scifi. They dont care about who you are. They wont publish a black lesbian scifi author because of her identity unless she writes well. A bunch of the Sad Puppies were Baen-published authors.
Right? Is it too much to ask for some decent fantasy and sci fi stories?
You mean writing a Munchausen by proxy self insert story about how your lover is transformed into a miniature dinosaur is not good sci fi?

That's not long enough to be a real light novel title these days.
I remember the supposed nerd sites gushing over that story. That’s when I started to realize those sites didn’t care about the fans

I came across Baen a few years ago. Do they do a better job of gatekeeping? Their stuff doesn’t seem to be woke nonsense
