Must be a slow news day. We all know that HuffPost is a retarded commie propaganda outlet but they must have nothing going on if they deem policing word choice on Fox News worthy of an article.
Good question. I remember in 2021 someone sent me a HuffPost article about why Jan 6 and Trump were evil incarnate. I said it’s not a credible publication because they say exactly what you expect them to say. He got upset
Back in 2016, just after the election, an acquaintance of mine (from the local atheist group) was literally in tears. She was crying because this nation was so morally twisted that it elected a child molester as president. I had recently read an article from HuffPo (like the kewl kids say) that covered the pedophilia accusations on Trump and even they concluded it was a load of shit.
But this dumb bitch was making a show of how she felt baseless accusation = truth.
So I’ll give the Huffington Post SOME credit that when presented with a mountain of evidence (or, in this case, a mountain of a lack of evidence) they’ll actually not tow the part line. Not that that matters to a party loyalist.
Most every atheist I’ve suffered the company of is a party loyalist.
It's military, from when units lined up in a formation.
From antiquity to the American Civil War formations were used to increase combat power and ease the handling and direction of large numbers of troops. Keeping your place in the formation during maneuvers who's the mark of a good soldier.
It's only a short jump to use the phrase to mean obedience and conformity.
Yeah, because it was a load of shit. NOBODY gave it much coverage. Even the HuffPo article is framed as “this is why nobody is talking about it.” I knew about it because I’m a weirdo who reads /pol/ on 4chan, and they discuss everything all the time anyway. But, if you were a hardcore liberal with early onset TDS, you probably found it out and skipped any critical thinking steps (weird, atheists love to tout how they’re critical thinkers, unlike those religious drones) and went straight to “THIS MUST BE TRUE AND THE MEDIA SUPPRESSED IT BECAUSE THE CONSERVATIVES CONTROL THE WORLD!”
I think this is the one thing Andrew Breitbart did that was not a good idea.
Without his help, Huffpost would not have gotten off the ground.
And we'd all be better off for it.
Maybe he felt it was a containment rag for everyone not worth reading, or something. Sort of like /trash on 4chan where you actively have to search it out because it's unlisted. Unlisted for a reason.
Having just worked directly with intellectually disabled adults, this is the one word out of all the words that I watch.
Here is my reasoning: if Taylor Lorenz gets offended that I called her a fickle dumb bitch, she can chew on that. She can be offended and feel threatened or whatever - I assume she has the mental capacity to understand what I meant and how I mean it.
But if I say she is retarded, and someone with an intellectual disability hears that... i will never be able to explain what I meant and be understood. That is hurtful no matter what. So, in that context I was cautious and it seems to be for a good reason.
But outside of that context (and to be clear, a fox news segment is very far outside of the spongebob and paw patrol context of adults with DDs), it is absolutely retarded to police the word.

Has HuffPost always been far left? I know publications like Vice and Business Insider weren’t always how they are today

Incidentally it's "toe the line" not "tow the line" not sure of the etymology but it may be I'll disappear down that rabbit hole later

I had never heard of those accusations, granted there have been so many. That’s good they at least did that

As far as I know, though I'll admit I don't know their history prior to around a decade ago.
Jew on jew mud slinging. Pick your jew and cheer them on!

How about "retaaaaaaawded" as they say in Boston (a tip o' the hat to Louis CK)?
