The article specifically mentions that northern Texans are known to refer to this strange substance as "snow."
Interestingly, the ones that seem to freak out the most are the leftists. They are just inherently built to freak out over stuff.

We had FAR more snow on December 10, 2008.
Yes, I remember the EXACT DATE--because snow is so rare here, I wanted to remember it forever.
On that day, I had the one and only snowball fight I've ever experienced. I'll never forget how much fun it was.
