Obviously, nuclear is the next generation of electrical power.
However, Alberta is extremely rural. Even assuming that it can generate enough electricity for "heat pumps", there is always a high chance of transmission line damage which takes hours or days to fix.
Many people need individual energy storage solutions, for which batteries/electric are garbage conpared to propane, diesel, natural gas, or even wood stoves.
Alberta has all the oil that it, the rest of Canada, the rest of the USA, and the rest of Mexico could ever need. And somehow, it doesn't have enough to heat homes.
Imagine it's below -30°C outside and the greenwashing policies resulted in such a shit energy supply you won't be able to heat your house. ( The government forced you to switch from oil / gas heating to electric. And many oil / gas heating central systems won't work during a power outage. )
Wood stove? That's illegal is many cities.
Potential huge financial and sentimental values that are cold sensitive will be lost.
During a huge storm last year we had a power outage and I rushed to light the wood stove so my finches and exotic plants wouldn't die.
You cannot have nice things under Leftist policies. They benevolently destroy everything.
Alberta needs to go nuclear.
Everyone needs to go nuclear, decades ago!
Yes, and no.

Alberta needs to go small modular nuclear.
good point.
Alberta, while having great rivers, is also landlocked.
The old nuclear plants back east are built on the shores of the Great Lakes, I'm assuming for a purpose.

Somehow. Like theyre being constricted by needless and idiotic green energy policies.
Alberta also has a fuckton of coal and natural gas. And our "conservative" premier still believes in carbon emissions & other bullshit.
But think how much easier it would have been to just blanket mandate no heating like a leftwing premier would have done.
She's a governor but I believe Hochuls response to similar conditions was shutting down permission to travel in New York state
