On principle, I have never blocked or reported anyone until now. It is not in my nature.
But Imp’s act has really degraded since 10/7. Every other word out of his keyboard is “stormfag”. He’s gone from local misogynist rascal to obnoxious forum slider, replying to every comment in some threads just to amplify his visibility (despite the consistent down votes).
Now, whenever I see a post with more then ten comments, I know it’s just Imp sperging out. This deflating experience is probably his actual goal.
Anyways, I’m blocking the retard for now. Gonna see how my forum experience goes without the shit-flinging monkey.
The sooner the better.
Disagree completely. We need better tools to manage what we see, not bans on opinions.
The complete reliance people have on others controlling their experiences has been nothing but a cancer.
And if anyone needs an example of this in the worst extreme, look no further than online gaming now compared to 10+ years ago, primarily the gaming that was on PC at that. Look at how what was once dominated with private servers where every group could have their own corner has now been eradicated into an unironically toxic shithole of mixed groups.
Many here would say they hate those that are SocJus inclined, but the issue would be mitigated if they simply stayed in their little corners, and other groups in there. Let skinheads and feminists have their own servers, but don't pretend like they're going to get along via public servers. This is the issue. And then instead of self-moderation (eg, you the end user curating your own life choices including where you spend your time), people are expected to rely on some central authority, namely the developers/publishers, and then wonder why it all ends up so shit.
This isn't limited to the online either. People need to stop looking to rely on others to tell them how to conduct their lives. To stop looking for people to be banned, excluded or punished simply because it doesn't align with them. Whether it's something as relatively small as gaming to something as major as relying on ever growing government, society at large needs to become a lot more independent about how they conduct themselves.
Imp has her little hugbox over in c/feminism and I've never seen anyone here demanding ot to be banned. Problem is, she insists on proselytizing here. Constantly. It's obnoxious and incredibly dumb.
You can also see it in the content-management features of apps like Discord and Slack, which limit what messages the user can block or hide in favor of Reports to a central authority. Slack doesn't even let you block a user. It's all very intentional.
"The system" we're using is inherently against that. We all know this site is held together by duct tape and dreams, but I sometimes wonder if it's not all by design. "Free" message boards and social media aren't here to give us a platform out of the goodness of their heart. They're here for some underlying purpose - aggregating discussions for political propaganda or semantic analysis. Designing an ideal system* that gives each user ultimate control over what they see would limit the "intersecting flow" where the most interesting opinions are tossed out, argued, and potentially can be astroturfed. In other words, while they want to maintain the image of topic-focused boards, they (whoever is funding this) still need a way to inject messaging and measure the collective response.
(*designing such a system is also difficult, but the above reasons explain why nobody prioritizes it)
