The Fortnite cash cow is in decline, however. Epic didn't make its model work before the balloon started to deflate, and time is running out.

Bots aren't included in the player count, they're thrown into games as part of the balancing for people who haven't played in a long time.
It's been the case since Chapter 2, way back in 2019.
My first game when I returned after being away since March, was full of bots because they thought I'd be shit at the game after a long break.
