Lol I get what your saying but let's not hold Gundam to real life pilot standards and haircuts. If you've even seen ZZ Gundam, it's like half the female characters belonged to a 1980s hair metal band.
I find it amusing that if they want to make this diverse band of pilots be sympathetic, but there is one amusing underlying tone. They're the bad guys and the end of this conflict they're going to most likely be in body bags if they're not vaporized from a beam rifle shot. So if the wokies want to make their OC characters look cool, fine, they're red paste regardless.
Actually now that I think about it, a lot of characters in good ole ZZ Gundam were super diverse too, and also super dead.
Even if our OC band of plucky Zaku pilots all end up dead, I think that there is still the possibility of a really good story there, similar to a survival horror movie, with the Gundam as the slasher that the audience knows cannot or will not die, but we root for the characters anyway.
Unlikely that we would get it, but there is a possibility.
And yes, big anime hair is appropriate to an anime, but less so to a more "realistic" CG show. Look at me, hoping against hope that the obvious aposematism haircut is justified.
Oh oh, Gundam Thunderbolt is really good at splitting the story down the middle at least.
Also it's much newer and the action is unrelentless. If you haven't seen it and want to Id be willing to do a mini watch party. I would love a excuse to watch it again :)
But Netflix.
But woman with "the haircut", even though that would be mostly appropriate for a pilot.
But diverse.
But in English.
I would love to see a Zeon centric story that illustrates how terrifying and likely hopeless it would be to try and fight a Gundam, but...
