I get a similar feeling as well, especially since they mention that there are missions where you're playing as a single mom taking care of a kid. From the trailer it doesn't look like when she's with her boyfriend there is a kid around at any point -- so you're probably right about that.

Wouldn't doubt it if he's also portrayed as betraying the "stronk wahmen" and he ends up dying; she gets bitter and ends up with the bulldyke saviour.
