MMORPGs are essentially just transactional databases with a large botting incentive while the game is active. So there's a big foothold to reverse engineer the server. I don't think anyone is ever going to reverse engineer the server for an action FPS from scratch because of the server side physics and prediction requirements. Your best hope would be leaked source code.
