Yeah, he's at least a middlingly competent author, far better than most of the purely "diverse" ones recommended by critics these days.
But the degree to which he is successful is largely due to the number of people believing the hype of critics saying he's some must read literary genius, and parroting the same to join the cool intellectual club. Not just recognizing a good-ish author, with thousands of equivalent peers.
He had a couple good ones, a lot of middling ones, and some awful ones.
The Stand was one of my favorites.
